Partnering with the Community in PT School
Congratulations to Noelle Giroux '22, '24G for receiving a 2021 Community Partner Award
Noelle serves as the President and Women's Ice Hockey team Representative for the Nazareth's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). In this role she partnered with the Accessing Inclusion program through the Student Accessibility Services Office to create and host a workshop that was open to the full Athletics Department. This workshop discussed the topics of ableism, visible vs. invisible disabilities, and how the Athletics Department can strengthen its partnership with the Special Olympics. The Diversity & Inclusion subcommittee in SAAC also launched an opportunity for student athletes called the Diversity Ambassadors program to foster and sustain a culture of belonging where individual differences as well as lived experiences are embraced and empowered as part of an interconnected, inclusive community. Under Noelle’s leadership SAAC also supported fundraising efforts for Camp Good Days & Special Times and supply drives for Dimitri House.
Noelle is a volunteer Ice Hockey Coach for the Rochester Ice Cats/Rochester Special Hockey, an organization that specializes in providing training in the game of ice hockey for individuals with developmental disabilities. Noelle says, ”My community engagement work has increased my inclusivity of all individuals, regardless of their race, identity, socio-economic status, abilities, etc. I strive to continue my advocacy and volunteer work in my future career as a physical therapist.”
Congratulations Noelle!
